We are working with GlobalNet21 to hold a series of events exploring social enterprise as a means of providing opportunities to groups and segments of the population that are often overlooked or marginalised.

WEBINAR: Social enterprise and gender equality

Wednesday 9 May 2012, 7.30pm
It is widely claimed that social enterprise contribute towards gender equality through both their outward facing mission– i.e. a focus on gender equality – and through their internal working practices – i.e. a higher propensity for women to be involved as leaders, employees and volunteers. This webinar looks at women¡¯s involvement in social ventures, and particularly their representation at the highest levels.

WEBINAR: Social Enterprise and the Migrant Community

Thursday 24 May 2012, 7.30pm
This webinar will discuss the role of social enterprise in working with migrant groups, either as a way of supporting them directly or establishing business opportunities and self-help. The Webinar will include a case study from a migrant group that has already set up a social enterprise.

This meeting hosted by Chris White MP. It will look at the role of social enterprise in the equality agenda. How can and do they deliver social value to create a more equal society? Can social enterprise be a driving force to achieving equality in the decades ahead? Will it benefit all or will marginalised groups be excluded?
Speakers:
Chris White MP
Chris is a member of the International Development Select Committee. In 2010 Chris introduced a Private Member's Bill - the Public Services (Social Enterprise and Social Value Bill). He is a strong advocate of social enterprise.
Dr Simon Teasdale, TSRC
Simon conducts social enterprise research at TSRC. He has been involved in social enterprise for 15 years, beginning at the Big Issue in the North in the early 1990s, then as a researcher at the Institute for Volunteering Research and Crisis, and lecturing on the University of East London¡¯s BA in Social Enterprise.
Miia Chambers, P3
Miia is Director of Development at P3 - a social inclusion charity and social enterprise, providing homeless, offender and mental health services. She is also seconded part-time to NESTA working on public service innovation.
